06/11/08 - Covert Street
So I'm driving down Front Street this morning when I see a large plume of black smoke behind a nearby building. As I get a little closer, I see a white truck ablaze in a parking lot on Covert Street. I stop to take a photo, when a notice a beat up green pick-up truck (like the one in the TV show 'Sanford and Son') arrive at the scene and out pops what I believe to be just another spectator to the event. Little did I know I was about to witness the transformation of a normal citizen into an incredible Super-Hero!!
This guy goes to the back of his truck, puts on some type of protective uniform, takes out a hose with a nozzle, and grabs a wrench. He connects the hose to a hydrant, opens it up, stretches the hose, breaks a few windows on the truck, and single-handedly extinguishes the raging fire.
He rolls up his hose, throws it back into his 'green machine', takes off his protective gear, revealing a strange orange undershirt, and drives away.
I tried to get his name....but it was too late. A truly amazing experience.
